March & April 2024:
We were very kindly invited to join Coillte Ireland in Avondale for a guided walk, scavenger hunt and to plant our own trees. We cant wait to go back and visit our trees once they have grown in the future! We also had bike workshops and tennis workshops throughout March and April. We learned lots of new skills and had lots of fun. Diane visited us to complete some Easter art before we had a break for the Easter Holidays. We spent April learning all about Australia. We practiced some aboriginal art techniques and created large projects all about Australia. We also entered a recycling competition with 2nd class in which we worked really hard to create a 3D town using only recycled materials.  We had lots of fun creating this town and learning all about recycling and other ways we can help our planet.

January & February 2024
In January we learnt lots about different types of weather and Space. This was great fun and we got to pretend to be astronauts and send video messages home from Space. We also did some bird watching in our school garden and got to tick a few birds off our list.
We began February with a really interesting history workshop. We got to do archery and sword fighting. We really enjoyed this. They also brought old weapons like swords and knives for us to look at, it was so exciting. The boys got to participate in a GAA football blitz against other local schools. We did really well!

September and October 2023:

We had a great return to school and settled nicely into our school routine. There was great excitement about being upstairs in the tree top classroom, and it has been lots of fun getting to know all the children in 1st class so far!
September came with the beginning of lots of our school activities including the return of GAA and Rugby. We began Aistear where we learned all about ‘Our Local Area’ with 2nd class. We used maps to explore our local area, and completed lots of fun activities, including entering the art competition ‘My community and Me’. We were also busy engaging in lots of fun maths activities, including a maths trail, maths stations and different maths quizzes as part of Maths Week.
As our first wellbeing trip we visited Kidzone with junior and senior infants. The children had great fun playing and this was a thoroughly enjoyable trip. We also visited Avondale as a whole school to complete the tree top walk, and thankfully the slide was open!
We finished up with a pyjama and crazy hair day followed by a Halloween party before saying goodbye for the Halloween break.

November & December 2022
November was a busy month in first class. In Aistear we learnt about food and turned our role play station into a restaurant. We also started learning about hibernation and the season of Winter. As a whole school we looked at the concept of fast fashion and had a past pupil come in and tell us all about her junk couture project. We were very impressed and also inspired. First class also tried their hand at making their very own yarn using sheep’s wool! Finally, a skipping workshop came to the school and we got to work on our skipping skills which we love to use out on the yard. We were surprised at what we could do!
December is always a lively time in St. Saviour’s. We spent a lot of time rehearsing for our Christmas play which was a resounding success. First sang ‘Follow the Star’ and dressed in white. It was really beautiful. We also had our annual carol service in St. Saviour’s church where we sang lots of our favourite Christmas hymns with our families and friends. Santa came to visit us for our traditional whole school Christmas party, we had so much fun! We wrapped everything up on our last day before the holidays with some hot chocolate and a movie.

October 2022
First class have had a very busy month. We have done lots of different activities and have worked well together, especially with second class for Aistear everyday. We learnt all about Day of the Dead and Diwali and how they are celebrated around  the world. We also became mad scientists and did an experiment to see how to make an egg float in water. Maths week was full of lots of fun activities and we got our maths passports stamped for completing lots of different mathematical endeavours. We also made some spooky witches with Diane and masks and a school banner with Susie. On the last day we took part in a Halloween Scavenger Hunt in the Memorial Park as part of our active flag campaign.

September 2022
In September, we welcomed everyone to first class and have been busy ever since! We got creative with our Autumn themed art, enjoyed beginning our Aistear work and we also took a trip to the beach!
